Five Game Mechanics I would like Changed or Updated in Cricket 19
Cricket 19 is the latest cricket game coming from the Melbourne based Big Ant Studios.
The game the successor to Ashes Cricket but playing the game it sometimes feels like one step forward but two steps back.
Having played both Ashes Cricket & having my hands on Cricket 19 for four months, I have made a list of things I would want changed in Cricket 19 or the next cricket game.
Keep in mind this list is subjective and is based on my experience with the game’s career mode.
For people that want to improve, information is key.
From basic control functions to league requirements, the game supplies the player with information but not all the information that is required.
Here are a couple of examples:
Batting Timings:
When the shot timing comes up as ‘Okay’ or ‘Good’, I would like it to be either slightly early or slightly late so I can adjust my shots in the future.
I would like to improve on what I am doing instead of getting vague info that I’m not doing exactly what I need to be doing.
XP Earned:
I want to know what I did to get the Bonus XP after matches.
I sometimes have no idea how I get half of the XP the game gives me.
I caught myself being annoyed with the commentators way too many times before turning them off all together.
It felt like zero voice lines were recorded for this game and were just reused from ‘Ashes Cricket’.
The same three to four voice lines heard over and over again becomes irritating incredibly fast.
I would love to either have more variation on voice lines or even add more commentators to the line up.
The XP system has changed for the worse in my opinion.
Having separate Ability points for Batting, Bowling & Fielding will leave an eventual surplus of skill points and specific ability points.
My stream character has 10 bowling ability points and over 1100 skill points to spend that can’t be allotted because of the system.
I wish that either the old XP system would come back with an overall XP bar or give the player an ability to exchange unused skill/ability points for needed ability points.
Fielding in this game is mind numbing and trying to get fielding xp for your character is like torture.
It’s not worth wasting precious minutes and hours of your life standing in the virtual field for a virtual cricket match to have maybe one or two opportunities to get XP.
This also extends to being the wicket keeper.
You're better off just choosing a dedicated batter over a wicket keeper any day of the week.
My suggestion would be to emulate ‘MLB the Show’.
Where simulating the fielding would stop if the player was involved in the field let the player make the play (or fail) and continue simulating.
Your character does take catches during the simulation, so what is stopping the game from giving the player control for that ball.
It would remove the boredom from fielding and allow players to still get fielding xp.
If there’s something you would like changed, let me know in the comments or hit me up on social media. Thanks for reading.

5. More Available Information
From basic control functions to league requirements, the game supplies the player with information but not all the information that is required.

4. Loading Screens
The loading screens are just painful.
Playing on a stock Xbox One, loading into matches took almost 5 entire minutes.
After the loading had finished, it would also not automatically loading into said game.
Prompting the player to press a button to advance to the match.
I would zone out and look at reddit to relieve the boredom.
Maybe adding mini games during the loading screens would help alleviate the wait.
It could be a quiz style of mini game or even an in-engine training game to earn XP.
Having an extra minute wait to load a mini game would be more advantageous over staring at the game tips.
I know the load times can be shortened by having a Solid State Drive but not everyone has the spare cash to upgrade their console’s storage.

3. More Commentators or Improved Commentary
I caught myself being annoyed with the commentators way too many times before turning them off all together.
It felt like zero voice lines were recorded for this game and were just reused from ‘Ashes Cricket’.
The same three to four voice lines heard over and over again becomes irritating incredibly fast.

2. Convert Skill Points to EXP or Attribute Points

1. Fielding or just Fielding Simulation
